talkSPORT radio presenter Nigel Botherway had just caught a 29lb mirror carp when something considerably bigger made off with his yellow pop-up attached to a size 6 barbless hook.

For 15 minutes the Fisherman’s Blues host thought he was playing the biggest carp in the lake. In fact, he was fighting the biggest fish in the lake – this huge moggy, the only wels catfish in Etang Hirondelle.

“It was too heavy to lift onto the bank,” said Nigel. “So I slipped into the water for a quick photo then waved her goodbye.”

Nigel added: “We had a brilliant week at Hirondelle, which far exceeded my expectations. Glen and Linda are fantastic hosts, and I can’t wait for my next visit.”
