We had a fantastic week at Etang Hirondelle despite very hot temperatures.

It took a few days to get the fish feeding after the lake having a 2 week break. But on the Tuesday I had a brilliant day, fish up to 40lb, some 30s, lots of 20s. But as temperatures rose further I woke on Wednesday to find the lake was alive with spawning fish. Temperatures rose further to 31 and the spawning continued through Thursday. Friday fishing started to pick up and I had some more 30s and some smaller fish. But by tea time, it was time to pack up and start to dwell on what could have been. Despite the challenging conditions we still made the most of our holiday, my wife enjoyed soaking up the sun followed by a dip in the pool. I loved being surrounded by nature and relaxing by the beautiful lakeside. On the way home I spoke to the lady at passport control about our holiday and she told me that she’d seen hundreds of anglers returning from France, and none of them had caught a thing due to the temperature and spawning fish. So, I didn’t feel so bad after that. I think I did quite well all things considered. With fantastic hosts Linda and Glen, a very well maintained, clean, tidy venue, it’s a shining star in the French countryside. I can’t recommend it enough to any family looking for a fantastic holiday with a chance of some stunning fish.
